Freiberg Mayor Philipp Preißler suspended following Leipzig hotel incident

Philipp Preißler, the Mayor of Freiberg in Saxony, has been temporarily suspended from his duties following an incident at a hotel in Leipzig. The suspension follows allegations of property damage and resisting law enforcement during a private visit to the city.

During the incident, Preißler reportedly threw objects from a hotel window and caused damage to property. Two police officers sustained minor injuries while attempting to intervene. As a result, Sven Krüger, the District Administrator of Mittelsachsen, announced that Preißler is prohibited from exercising his official duties while investigations are ongoing. Martin Seltmann will perform the mayoral duties in the interim.

In addition to the criminal investigation for property damage and resistance to law enforcement, a disciplinary proceeding against the 41-year-old mayor is also being initiated.
