French 2027 election: Environment unlikely to be central theme

According to data from Insee, environmental concerns are currently ranked fifth among the seven primary issues facing the French population. Fougier notes that eco-anxiety often acts as a "seasonal anxiety," whereas issues like purchasing power and security remain more consistent drivers of voter behavior.
Furthermore, the politicization of ecological issues has created a polarizing effect. Fougier observes that parties prioritizing climate issues, such as Les Écologistes and La France insoumise, have not seen a significant influx of new supporters, as some citizens associate political ecology with economic degrowth.
