French agricultural authorities address water access and river management
In the Dordogne department, Prefect Marie Aubert met with chestnut producers in Prigonrieux to discuss the impact of drought and future water access solutions. Christophe Leyssenne, director of the DDT, noted that significant harvest losses have occurred. While compensation figures for the chestnut sector are not yet quantified, the file is expected to be submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture in December, provided losses exceed 30%. The compensation scheme for various productions is expected to open early next year.
In the Oise department, the DDT organized a field visit to Milly-sur-Thérain to demonstrate river management works conducted by the SIVT along the Petit Thérain. To prevent bank degradation and water pollution caused by livestock, 13 stabilized watering points have been installed using flint to allow animals to drink without damaging the riverbanks. These measures, implemented on a voluntary basis with local landowners, aim to restore ecological continuity and prevent soil erosion.
