French agricultural unions demand emergency aid amid drought

French agricultural unions are warning that ongoing drought conditions are depleting cash reserves and threatening livestock farming due to fodder shortages and falling agricultural prices. Representatives from the FNSEA, Jeunes Agriculteurs, and FRSEA Pays de la Loire expressed concerns that current government plans are insufficient to prevent farm closures.

To mitigate the crisis, unions are demanding immediate financial interventions, specifically calling for zero-interest loans and the rapid disbursement of aid. Arnaud Rousseau, president of the FNSEA, emphasized that management decisions must be made immediately rather than waiting for the next budget cycle. Additionally, unions are calling for accelerated water storage solutions and the swift publication of decrees related to agricultural emergency laws to improve long-term adaptation.
