French author urges security training in Morocco following unrest

French author and researcher Françoise Coll criticized French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez in an open letter following waves of violence and vandalism in several French cities on October 17. Coll expressed shock at the looting and arson, describing a perceived inability of French security forces to protect citizens and property.

In her message, Coll cited a Parisian merchant who reported that police were unable to intervene during a robbery, claiming security elements were ‘overwhelmed’. She also addressed the Interior Minister's leadership following reports of a rejected resignation to President Emmanuel Macron.

Contrasting the domestic situation, Coll praised the Moroccan security model, describing it as a ‘world-class model’ with unmatched operational and logistical capabilities. She highlighted Morocco's use of advanced technologies, such as surveillance cameras and smart drones, and its expertise in combating terrorism and organized crime. Coll suggested that French police should undergo training in Morocco, noting the successful cooperation during the 2024 Paris Olympics where Moroccan police elements assisted in securing the capital.
