French centrist Raphaël Glucksmann sets three‑month window to decide 2027 presidential bid

Raphaël Glucksmann, leader of the Place publique party and former eurodeputy, announced on TF1 that he will take three months to travel France, present a "new patriotic contract" and unite his political family before deciding whether to run in the 2027 presidential election. He stressed he does not want to be an additional left‑wing candidate and aims to be the sole social‑democratic contender.

Glucksmann, polling at around 11 % among social‑democratic voters and citing a 14 % result in the 2024 European elections, said his responsibility is to offer a credible alternative to the far right. He faces competition from former president François Hollande and Jean‑Luc Mélenchon, who is currently at 16 % in recent polls. To boost his profile, he will hold a major rally on 13 June in Aubervilliers and has outlined proposals such as a mandatory 10‑month service civique, a citizen convention on immigration, and a "passport for emancipation" for youth outings.
