French communes Val-au-Perche and Hasparren install LED street lighting

The municipality of Val‑au‑Perche in Orne will replace 200 public lighting points with LED technology by the end of 2027, supported by the state’s Green Fund which covers 80% of the roughly €70,000 cost. The project, coordinated with Territoire Énergie Orne (TE61), aims to cut electricity use by 60‑70% and improve lighting quality, with work beginning in August 2026 across several districts.

In Hasparren, the Mendeala hall's outdated sodium lamps have been replaced by LED fixtures, a change expected to lower electricity consumption by about 44% and save roughly €3,400 a year. The renovation was financed through a scheme with the mixed energy syndicate of the Pyrénées‑Atlantiques (TE64) and SONEPAR, delivering net annual savings of about €1,540 after accounting for the investment. Both projects are part of the communes’ broader efforts to advance energy transition and reduce operating costs.
