French cuisine events announced across Japan with focus on sustainability
The 16th annual Diners Club French Restaurant Week 2026 is scheduled to take place from September 18 to October 18. More than 500 French restaurants across Japan, from Hokkaido to Okinawa, will participate, offering course meals at three special price points: 3,000 yen, 6,000 yen, and 10,000 yen.
The theme for this year is “Sustainable French,” focusing on environmental consciousness, seasonal ingredients, reducing food waste, and supporting local producers. Featured “Focus Chefs” include Masataka Nozaki from Iwate, who utilizes all parts of the scallop to minimize waste, and Seiya Matsuda from Yamagata, who promotes the use of wild game (gibier) to address regional ecological and social issues.
In a separate culinary event, the Nagoya Tokyu Hotel will host a weekend bistro buffet at its Montmartre restaurant from September 5 to November 3, 2026. The fair will feature regional French dishes such as Burgundy-style scallops, duck roast with orange sauce, and chicken confit, alongside live cooking performances.
