French customs seize large cigarette and cannabis shipments in northern France

Customs officers on the A29 near Amiens stopped a Belgian‑registered van and discovered 500 cartons of Marlboro cigarettes, roughly 100 kg of untaxed tobacco. The driver, a man from Brussels, admitted he was paid €400 to transport the load and was later fined €15,000 after a swift court hearing.

In a separate case in the Oise department, four kilograms of cannabis arriving from Miami were intercepted at a FedEx centre in Le Meux. Two men appeared before the Beauvais court; the alleged supplier was cleared of import charges but convicted of possession, while his accomplice received a comparable sentence. Both incidents highlight ongoing efforts by French authorities to disrupt cross‑border smuggling networks.
