French Development Agency commits 620 million euros to Albania

The French Development Agency (AFD) has committed over 620 million euros to Albania over the last five years. These funds have supported infrastructure, energy, the environment, public reforms, and the private sector.

As Albania approaches European Union membership, the AFD is shifting its focus toward helping Albanian companies adapt to a more competitive market. Christophe Lecourtier, the new Director General of the AFD, stated that support for the private sector must go beyond direct financing to include expertise, innovation, and the creation of partnerships between Albanian and European companies. Through Proparco, the group has also funded microfinance institutions to expand credit access for micro and small enterprises.
