French Development Agency support in Albania

Overview

The French Development Agency (AFD) has committed over 620 million euros to Albania over a five-year period. This funding has targeted infrastructure, energy, the environment, public reforms, and the private sector.

As Albania moves toward European Union membership, the AFD is transitioning its strategy to assist Albanian companies in adapting to competitive markets. Christophe Lecourtier, the Director General of the AFD, noted that support for the private sector should extend beyond direct financing to include expertise, innovation, and the establishment of partnerships between Albanian and European firms. Additionally, through Proparco, the agency has funded microfinance institutions to increase credit access for small and micro enterprises.
