French Development Agency to provide 600 million euros for Turkish environmental projects

Turkish Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Murat Kurum has announced that a new financing package worth approximately 600 million euros is being developed with the French Development Agency (AFD). Following meetings in Paris with AFD CEO Christophe Lecourtier, the funding is intended to support environmental protection and climate resilience projects in Turkey.

A primary focus of the package is the protection of the Marmara Sea, specifically targeting the fight against mucilage. The planned initiatives include improving the quality of wastewater treatment plants to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus levels, thereby restoring oxygen levels and the marine ecosystem.

Additionally, the financing will support the expansion of renewable energy resources and assist Turkish industry in transitioning to clean energy. The cooperation also aims to promote biodiversity conservation and address broader climate challenges such as floods and droughts through the COP31 action agenda.
