French emergency services deploy resources for forest fire prevention
French emergency services are deploying various strategic resources to combat forest fire risks during the 2026 season. In Marignane, the specialized ‘pelicandrome’ facility serves as a critical hub for aerial firefighting operations. This site facilitates the rapid refueling of aircraft, such as Dash and Canadair planes, allowing them to return to fire zones within six to seven minutes. The facility requires highly trained personnel to manage the dangerous task of approaching aircraft with spinning propellers.
Simultaneously, firefighting reinforcements are being mobilized across different regions. A crew from the Lot department has been deployed to Corte, Corsica, as part of a zonal forest fire intervention group (GIFF). This mission, running from August 15 to August 22, aims to strengthen national resources and ensure coverage of wildfire risks across the island through the end of August.
