French farmers demand more aid at Sommet de l'élevage

At the Sommet de l'élevage in Auvergne, French livestock farmers are expressing deep dissatisfaction with government support following a severe summer drought. While the government announced over one billion euros in emergency aid and a long-term recovery plan for the 2027 budget, agricultural unions report that funds have not yet reached farm treasuries.

Agricultural leaders, including representatives from the FNSEA and Jeunes agriculteurs, have criticized the current budget proposals, stating that the crisis requires significantly more resources than provided. The drought in the Massif Central has halted pasture growth, forcing livestock to consume winter fodder prematurely and placing significant strain on farm operations.

As presidential candidates visit the summit to court voters, Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard faces pressure from farmers who demand more than “crumbs” to address the ongoing economic and environmental challenges.
