French farmers receive relief following 2026 heatwaves

French agricultural producers in the Vendée and Côtes-d’Armor regions are receiving relief following significant crop losses caused by the heatwaves and droughts of the 2026 summer season.

In Vendée, the state is granting over 9.1 million euros in automatic property tax relief for non-built land. The relief is calculated based on specific crop types, with reference loss rates set at 65% for meadows, 43% for land, and 50% for orchards. For vineyards, rates will be determined by harvest declarations and terroir. Additionally, the tax payment deadline has been extended from October 15 to November 15, 2026. Farmers who believe their actual losses exceed these reference rates may file individual claims.

In Côtes-d’Armor, producers of peas and small fruits—including blueberries, currants, gooseberries, blackberries, and raspberries—can apply for compensation under the agricultural calamities framework. Following a ministerial decree signed on September 7, affected farmers must submit their applications by October 31, 2026, to receive aid for losses sustained during the high temperatures of June 2026.
