French firefighters deployed to Aragon to combat major forest fire

Approximately 100 French firefighters have been deployed to the Aragon region in Spain to assist in combating what is described as the largest forest fire in the history of the region. The firefighting efforts are focused on the Las Peñas de Riglos area, with crews working to protect Santa Cruz de la Serós and the San Juan de La Peña monasteries.

The French contingent includes about 40 personnel from the Occitanie and Nouvelle-Aquitaine districts, alongside 60 members of the Brigade des militaires de la Sécurité Civile. The deployment serves as a relief for local operations that have been battling the blaze for a week. A temporary base for the French detachment has been established at the San Juan de la Peña school sports center in Jaca.
