French media landscape shifts toward digital platforms and YouTube

Recent studies highlight a shifting media landscape in France, characterized by the growing influence of digital platforms and varying levels of public trust.

An analysis by Social Radio of 46 YouTube channels in France and the United Kingdom shows that Skyrock dominates the French market with approximately 7.9 million cumulative subscribers. While Skyrock leads in subscriber numbers, Europe 1 and RTL recorded the highest volumes of video publications between June and August 2026. The trend reflects a broader global shift; in the United States, 37% of weekly podcast listeners now cite YouTube as their primary service, and YouTube has overtaken Spotify as the leading podcast platform in the United Kingdom.

Regarding media credibility, a study by Agence 3icom and OpinionWay indicates that traditional formats still hold significant authority in France. The television news program (JT) remains the most trusted medium at 29%, followed by print media at 17%. However, digital platforms are gaining traction among younger demographics. YouTube reaches 21% trust among 25-34-year-olds, and TikTok is trusted by 18% of those aged 18-24. Overall, YouTube holds a 9% trust rating among the general population, surpassing radio at 7%.
