French police injured in Le Cannet and customs bust drug truck on A9 after refusals

In Le Cannet, Alpes‑Maritimes, a brigadier of the anti‑criminal unit attempted to stop a vehicle suspected of drug trafficking. The driver refused to comply, reversed the vehicle and collided with the police, leaving two officers injured and requiring medical care. Several individuals were later arrested as part of the investigation.

On 18 June 2026, a Spanish‑registered heavy truck on the A9 near the Boulou toll tried to flee a customs check. The driver ignored the customs officers' commands and continued, but was intercepted a few kilometres away near Banyuls‑dels‑Aspres. An inspection uncovered 107 kg of cannabis resin and 131 kg of cannabis herb, totaling 238 kg of illicit drugs. The driver and a passenger claimed they were unaware of the cargo. Both were convicted on 22 June, receiving two‑year prison sentences, a permanent ban from French territory, and fines exceeding €440 000, with an additional €1 000 fine for the driver’s refusal to obey.
