French Polynesia expands tourism options in remote archipelagos
The 37th Tere 'Aia Tourism Fair in Papeete has highlighted a growing trend of travelers seeking authentic experiences in the more remote archipelagos of French Polynesia, such as the Marquesas, the Gambier Islands, and the Austral Islands.
At the event, sixteen new exhibitors were introduced, including several newly launched guesthouses in less frequented areas like Maupiti and Ua Pou. This expansion of accommodation options aims to support tourism beyond the traditional hubs of Bora Bora and Moorea.
In the Austral Islands, travelers choosing between Rurutu and Raivavae face different seasonal advantages. Rurutu is recommended between July 20 and November 15 for humpback whale watching, while Raivavae is noted for its lagoon and the Vaiamanu motu. Both islands require travel via Tahiti using Air Tahiti, as no direct flights exist between them.
