French tourist found dead near Mades Beach in Crete

A search operation for a 78-year-old French tourist has ended tragically after his body was discovered in the sea near Mades Beach, Crete. The man had been missing since Friday after going for a swim.

The recovery effort involved a large-scale coordination between the Hellenic Coast Guard, professional fishermen, divers, and aerial support including drones and planes. The deceased was located approximately 200 meters from the shore in the maritime area of Mades, near Agia Pelagia.

Authorities conducted extensive searches of the seabed around the area and near the hotel where the man was staying. Official identification is pending.
