Portugal public sector unions demand significant 2027 wage increases
Public administration unions in Portugal are demanding significant salary increases for 2027 to combat inflation and the loss of purchasing power. The Frente Comum de Sindicatos has submitted a list of 83 proposals to the Ministry of Finance, including a demand for a wage increase of at least 15% (a minimum of 150 euros) for all workers and an increase in the public administration's remuneratory base to 1,150 euros.
Other union groups, such as the Sindicato dos Quadros Técnicos do Estado e de Entidades com Fins Públicos (STE), are seeking updates above 5%, in addition to the 2.3% already stipulated in a multi-year agreement. Additional demands include an earlier increase in meal allowances and changes to ADSE discount rates.
Negotiations between the Government and the three public administration union federations are scheduled to begin on October 6. In anticipation of upcoming strikes, minimum services have already been decreed for certain sectors, including flights between the Azores and Madeira and the mainland, as well as services for the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
