Frida Kahlo exhibition shatters Tate Modern pre‑sale record with 41,000 tickets
The Tate Modern in London will open the exhibition “Frida: The Making of an Icon” on 25 June 2026, dedicated to Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. More than 41,000 tickets have been sold in advance, the highest pre‑sale figure in the museum’s history, overtaking the previous record of 32,000 set by a David Hockney retrospective in 2017. The show will feature over 30 of Kahlo’s works, including key self‑portraits, personal objects and pieces by Diego Rivera, alongside works by other Latin‑American surrealists. Curators highlight Kahlo’s lasting cultural impact and the phenomenon of “Fridamania,” exploring how her image has become widely commercialised. Catherine Wood, interim director of Tate Modern, said the museum was “truly amazed by this figure.” In parallel, a new book “Casa Kahlo” about the artist’s family home has been published.
