Friuli Venezia Giulia advances forest conservation and sustainable management

The Friuli Venezia Giulia region is highlighting its forest resources through new conservation recognitions and educational initiatives. Three ancient forest areas—Croseraz Val Bona and Pian dele Stele in the Cansiglio forest, and Bosco Vintulins in the Forchiutta forest—have officially joined the National Network of Ancient Forests following their publication in the Official Gazette.

These ancient ecosystems are characterized by high biodiversity, featuring native species and natural evolution spanning over sixty years without significant human interference. Regional Councilor Stefano Zannier noted that this achievement, developed in synergy with the University of Udine, aims to consolidate forest management across productive, environmental, and social dimensions.

Complementing these conservation efforts, the ‘Foresta Tour PEFC 2026’ is visiting the region to promote sustainable forest management and the wood-furniture supply chain. The tour includes technical seminars at the University of Udine, updates on new PEFC sustainable forest management standards, and community engagement activities such as forest bathing sessions in Ugovizza.
