Friuli Venezia Giulia hit by severe storms and heavy rainfall

The Friuli Venezia Giulia region in Italy has experienced severe weather, characterized by intense rainfall, wind gusts, and significant lightning activity. In Moggio Udinese, rainfall reached 179 mm, while wind gusts hit 128 km/h on Monte Zoncolan. The storm produced over 15,000 lightning strikes and prompted 135 emergency calls to the 112 service, with the highest volume of reports coming from the provinces of Udine, Pordenone, Gorizia, and Trieste.

Local authorities reported various damages, including fallen trees in San Quirino and San Giorgio della Richinvelda, as well as flooding in Basiliano, Trasaghis, and Ronchi dei Legionari. The regional Civil Protection has issued an orange alert for the entire region and declared a 15-day pre-alarm status, allocating 1.3 million euros for emergency response. While a brief reprieve occurred during the morning, a second storm system with the potential for heavy rain and strong winds is expected to arrive in the afternoon.
