Frost Science Museum hosts Pixar interactive exhibition in Miami
The Frost Science Museum in Miami has launched 'The Science Behind Pixar', an interactive exhibition exploring the intersection of creativity and scientific principles in animation. Developed in collaboration with Pixar and the Museum of Science, Boston, the exhibit is scheduled to run until April 11, 2027.
The exhibition features over 50 interactive elements organized into eight sections, each representing a different phase of the production process, ranging from character modeling to rendering. Visitors can engage with tasks such as creating digital sculptures from sketches or solving lighting challenges similar to those used in 'Finding Nemo'.
According to Hidekel Olivo-Pinales, the museum's public programs manager, the exhibit demonstrates how mathematics and computer science are essential to the medium, such as the requirement of 24 frames per second to create motion. The display aims to show that the production of animated films is '100 percent art and 100 percent science'.
