Frozen food market expands with premium brands and new categories

The frozen food sector is experiencing a shift toward high-quality ingredients and specialized products. Porta, an Italian brand specializing in handmade Roman-style pizzas, has launched in Target stores across the United States. The brand utilizes traditional techniques, including 24-hour slow-fermented dough and ingredients sourced from Italy, such as flour from Le Marche, tomatoes from Campania, and olive oil from Puglia.

Target is offering four varieties of Porta pizzas, including Margherita, Pepperoni, Mushroom & Fontina, and Sweet & Spicy Soppressata, at a suggested retail price of $11.99.

Parallel to these premium food offerings, the frozen food market is expanding to include cannabis products as consumers seek new ways to preserve freshness and flavor. This trend follows the historical evolution of the industry, which was revolutionized by Clarence Birdseye’s rapid-freezing technology and the subsequent rise of convenience-based meals like Birds Eye frozen foods.
