Fubon Guardians evaluate foreign pitcher roster ahead of August deadline

The Fubon Guardians are facing a critical decision regarding their foreign player roster as the August 31 deadline approaches. Manager Gotoh Mitsutaka stated that the coaching staff is carefully evaluating several candidates to fill four available spots, including players such as Matthews, Haliou, and Suzuki Shunsuke, as well as the potentially unlisted Tai Wei.

Recent performances have complicated the selection process. Left-hander Matthews delivered a quality start with six innings and only one run allowed, while Haliou showed strength with a fastball reaching 153 km/h. Tai Wei also pitched three scoreless innings in a recent second-team appearance. Gotoh noted that while players have shown strengths, each also has specific areas for improvement that the team must consider for the remainder of the season.

In a separate matchup, the TSG Hawks faced challenges in their bullpen following an injury to closer Lin Shih-chang. Manager Hung Yi-chung commented on the instability of the relief corps, noting that while substitute Huang Chun performed better than expected, the team continues to work on maintaining composure during high-pressure situations.
