Fucofa launches voluntary vaccination campaign in Entre Ríos

The Foundation for the Fight against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (Fucofa) will begin a strategic voluntary vaccination campaign in November. The initiative aims to address logistical gaps and changes in the official national vaccination schedule that do not align with local production cycles.

The campaign focuses on vaccinating calves that have not yet received a dose of the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine. This allows producers to include these animals in the vaccinated stock, facilitating sales before March without the need for costly and bureaucratic exit vaccinations. Additionally, the campaign targets brucellosis vaccination for heifers of appropriate age, whether intended for sale or herd replacement.

Fucofa officials noted that current official scheduling issues could leave calves born after July without proper status until March 2027. In Entre Ríos, many heifers born this year risk lacking brucellosis coverage, potentially leading to sanctions or the need for alternative measures, as they may not reach the required age for an adequate immune response by the 2027 deadline.
