Argentina foot-and-mouth disease vaccination changes
Overview
Authorities in La Pampa and the National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (SENASA) have begun discussions regarding Resolution 201/26, which deregulates the foot-and-mouth disease vaccination system in Argentina. Effective February 15, 2027, the regulation will permit accredited private veterinarians to administer vaccines, a role previously held exclusively by sanitary foundations and health entities. Local producers and sanitary foundations have expressed concern that this shift could fragment sanitary controls and undermine established collective health management systems.
In response to logistical gaps and changes in the national vaccination schedule, the Foundation for the Fight against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (Fucofa) announced a voluntary vaccination campaign in Entre Ríos for November. This initiative targets calves that have not yet been vaccinated to ensure they are included in vaccinated stock, allowing for easier sales before March. The campaign also addresses brucellosis vaccination for heifers to prevent potential sanctions resulting from scheduling issues that could leave certain animals without proper coverage by the 2027 deadline.
