Fuel price trends and regulatory risks impact diesel and gasoline markets
In the United States, policymakers are introducing temporary measures to address rising diesel fuel prices, which impact sectors such as freight, agriculture, and construction. While these measures, including changes to diesel fuel taxation and use requirements, aim to provide economic relief, the Engine Technology Forum warns of potential risks. Specifically, there are concerns regarding high sulfur levels and the risk of misfuelling equipment, which could lead to performance issues, increased maintenance costs, and warranty complications.
In Portugal, fuel price forecasts for the week of October 19 to October 25 indicate a divergence between fuel types. According to the Automóvel Club de Portugal, diesel prices are expected to increase by approximately 4.5 cents per litre, potentially reaching an average of €2.189. Conversely, gasoline prices are forecasted to decrease by 1.5 cents per litre, with an expected average of €2.10 per litre.
