Romania and Moldova advance energy transition through solar and storage projects
Romania and Moldova are advancing significant energy transition and infrastructure projects. In Romania, Sigenergy has partnered to develop a 48 MW photovoltaic project in Prahova County, supported by Banca Transilvania. Other regional developments include a 63.8 million lei metal construction facility in Bumbești-Jiu and a 2.72 million lei battery storage project for Mogoșoaia's solar park. Additionally, Oradea Airport is investing over 8.5 million lei in a 2 MW solar park with storage, and Constanța has completed a 150 million euro high-tech cogeneration plant.
Energy policy shifts are also evident. Romania's Casa Verde program is transitioning its focus from solar panel subsidies to energy storage systems like batteries, with a 400 million lei budget. Meanwhile, Moldova is seeing record activity on its Day-Ahead Market (PZU), with 45% of its electricity consumption traded on the platform, signaling a move toward European market integration and reduced import dependency.
On the consumer side, fuel prices in Romania have seen significant volatility, with gasoline and diesel prices rising over 30% compared to late 2025 levels. In Moldova, however, fuel prices for standard diesel are seeing a downward trend for early October.
