India fuel prices: Private companies hike petrol and diesel rates

Private fuel companies Jio-bp and Nayara Energy have increased petrol and diesel prices in India, with petrol rising by 5 rupees and diesel by 3 rupees per litre. These hikes are attributed to rising international crude oil prices, which have exceeded 103 dollars per barrel.

In contrast, state-run oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL), have maintained stable fuel rates. Consequently, government-run fuel stations remain more affordable for consumers than private outlets.

Retail prices continue to vary across Indian cities due to state-level taxes, local charges, and transportation costs. In major metropolitan areas, petrol prices remain above 100 rupees per litre, while diesel prices are generally above 95 rupees per litre.
