Energy and fuel prices rise across Bulgaria, Moldova, and Romania
Energy and fuel markets across Southeast Europe are experiencing significant volatility. In Bulgaria, diesel prices have reached a historic high of 1.90 euro per liter, marking a 54.84 percent increase over the past year. While experts suggest these increases may continue gradually, the rising cost of diesel is expected to impact the broader economy through increased transport costs.
In Moldova, Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu has warned that natural gas tariffs are likely to rise again due to elevated European benchmark prices, which have recently exceeded 83 euro per megawatt-hour. The energy company Energocom noted that while current tariffs are regulated, significant market shifts could necessitate adjustments.
Romania is also facing energy pressures. Fuel prices have seen a general increase, with diesel rising above 10.6 lei per liter. Additionally, the country faces potential challenges for the 2026-2027 winter season due to high gas prices and reduced hydroelectric production caused by drought. These factors, combined with geopolitical tensions in the Middle East affecting global oil prices, continue to drive regional energy instability.
