Fuel prices in Spain rise for sixth consecutive week

Fuel prices in Spain have risen for six consecutive weeks, approaching yearly highs during the summer holiday season. Following the removal of the 10% VAT reduction in early July, fuel costs have increased by 21%.

According to the European Union Petroleum Bulletin, the average price of diesel rose by 1.56% to 1.821 euros per liter, its highest level since mid-April. Gasoline increased by 0.88%, reaching 1.702 euros per liter. This upward trend follows a June decree that repealed previous anti-crisis VAT measures, replacing them with a smaller reduction in special hydrocarbon taxes.

The price hike coincides with a period of high travel demand. The Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) estimates approximately 54.5 million trips during August. Currently, filling a standard 55-liter diesel tank costs 100.15 euros, which is 21.83 euros more than the previous year. Gasoline for the same volume costs 93.61 euros, nearly 12 euros more than the same period last year.
