Fuel prices fluctuate in Pakistan while remaining stable in India
Fuel prices in India and Pakistan have seen recent shifts driven by international crude oil volatility and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
In Pakistan, the government reduced petrol prices by Rs1.93 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs4.21 per litre, effective September 24. This follows a period of rising costs linked to US-Iran tensions. The government has also implemented austerity measures, including cutting fuel allocations for official vehicles by 50 percent.
In India, retail fuel prices have remained largely stable across major cities despite fluctuations in global Brent crude prices. In cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai, petrol and diesel rates have seen little to no change in recent days. While international crude prices have fluctuated due to supply shifts from Saudi Arabia and geopolitical risks, domestic rates in India are maintained through a dynamic pricing system reviewed daily by state-run oil marketing companies. Local variations in prices across Indian states continue to be influenced by differing Value Added Tax (VAT) and transportation costs.
