Fuel prices reshape summer travel plans in Greece

Rising fuel prices in Greece are significantly altering summer travel patterns as households face higher transportation costs. With average prices for unleaded gasoline at approximately €1.988 per liter and diesel at €1.978 per liter, the traditional cost advantage of diesel vehicles has nearly vanished.

Travelers are increasingly forced to redesign their routes, destinations, and trip durations to accommodate budget constraints. While mainland prices remain near the national average, costs on the islands—including the Cyclades, Dodecanese, and Ionian Islands—are notably higher. In these regions, fuel prices often exceed the €2.00 threshold, ranging between €2.15 and €2.25 per liter due to increased transport costs. This creates a double burden for island travelers, who must also contend with higher ferry fares for vehicles.
