Fuel prices rise amid US-Iran conflict, impacting global markets

Rising fuel prices, driven by ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, are impacting consumers in both Germany and the United States. In Germany, fuel costs reached new highs in early September, with Super E10 averaging 2.215 euros per liter and diesel at 2.232 euros.

Despite these high costs, new car registrations in Germany increased by 2.6 percent in August 2026 compared to the previous year, with a notable rise in electric vehicle adoption. Popular segments include minis, small to medium-sized cars, and SUVs.

In the United States, gasoline and diesel prices have more than doubled since the onset of the US-Iran conflict in February. This economic pressure has become a central issue for President Donald Trump ahead of midterm elections, as voters express concern over the affordability of fuel and food.
