Global markets face volatility in cocoa and energy sectors
Global commodity markets are experiencing significant volatility. In Côte d'Ivoire, Agriculture Minister Bruno Koné announced that the guaranteed purchase price for cocoa will remain at 1,200 FCFA per kilogram for the 2026/2027 campaign. This decision, aimed at maintaining financial sustainability, comes despite a recent rebound in international cocoa prices and follows a period of extreme price drops that heavily impacted producers.
Energy markets are also under pressure due to geopolitical tensions. US strikes on Iranian targets have sparked fears of disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical transit point for global oil and gas. Consequently, Brent crude and natural gas prices have seen sharp increases, with European gas futures reaching their highest levels since early 2023.
These global shifts are impacting local fuel costs. In Morocco, diesel prices have risen by 0.06 dirhams per liter, while gasoline remains stable. In Mayotte, significant increases have been reported across all regulated petroleum products, including diesel and cooking gas. Meanwhile, in France, diesel prices have seen a slight decrease, though gasoline prices have risen slightly.
