Fuel prices rise sharply in Belgium and Canada

Fuel prices have seen significant increases in both Belgium and Canada, impacting motorists during the transition back to work and school seasons.

In Belgium, gasoline (E10) prices rose by 9 cents per liter, while diesel increased by 14 cents. Some stations reported gasoline prices exceeding the 2-euro mark, with a maximum price of 2.058 euros per liter. For a 50-liter tank, a full refill now costs approximately 100 euros for gasoline and 120 euros for diesel. Vincent Orts, spokesperson for the Belgian Federation of Fuel Traders (Brafco), noted that geopolitical factors, including potential US policy decisions regarding Iran, could influence future fluctuations.

In Canada, specifically in Drummondville, Quebec, gasoline prices jumped by nearly 20 cents per liter in a short period. Prices rose from approximately 1.77 CAD to 1.96 CAD per liter, adding about 10 CAD to the cost of a 50-liter tank. This sudden increase coincides with the return to work and the start of the school year, increasing the financial burden on families and commuters.
