Fuerteventura: Man dies after being rescued from the sea

A man approximately 54 years old has died after being rescued from the sea at Esquinzo beach in the La Oliva municipality of Fuerteventura. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when bystanders pulled an unconscious individual from the water about 100 meters from the coast.

Emergency services, including the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES 112), deployed an ambulance and a medicalized helicopter to the scene. Despite advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts by medical professionals, the man was pronounced dead. The operation involved the La Oliva Extinction and Rescue Service, Beach Rescue, and the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) of the Government of the Canary Islands. Due to difficult terrain, a GES helicopter was used to transport the body to the authorities.
