FUFA announces major governance reforms and prize pool increases
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced significant financial and structural reforms following its 102nd Ordinary General Assembly in Mbarara City. A major highlight is the increase of the Uganda Premier League prize pool from UGX 128 million to UGX 600 million. Under this new structure, the league champions will receive UGX 200 million, while the runners-up will earn UGX 100 million. FUFA President Moses Hassim Magogo attributed this funding boost to increased revenue from the government, CAF, and FIFA.
Beyond prize money, the total cash prize package across all FUFA competitions is set to rise from UGX 735 million to UGX 1.54 billion. The federation also plans to introduce medical insurance for Big League clubs and improve compensation for referees and match delegates.
Structurally, the Assembly approved major governance reforms, including renaming the General Assembly to the FUFA Congress and increasing the Executive Committee from 17 to 19 members. The reforms also include the creation of a Fourth Vice President position, with a mandate that one of the four Vice Presidents must be female. Additionally, FUFA will now operate as a body corporate under the National Sports Act and will introduce a Football Tribunal to resolve disputes.
