Uganda football governance and financial scrutiny

Overview

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) recently announced a series of structural and financial reforms following its 102nd Ordinary General Assembly. These reforms include increasing the Uganda Premier League prize pool from UGX 128 million to UGX 600 million, expanding the Executive Committee, and establishing a Football Tribunal. The federation also introduced a mandate requiring at least one female Vice President.

Following these announcements, the Inspectorate of Government (IG) launched an investigation into FUFA regarding the alleged mismanagement of public funds. The probe, directed by Inspector General of Government Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, requires the federation to provide documentation spanning nearly a decade. The inquiry is examining broadcasting rights agreements, the transfer of commercial rights to FUFA Media Services Limited, and the distribution of league revenue to clubs.
