Fukui Prefecture proposes 27.8 billion yen budget for heavy rain recovery
Fukui Prefecture has proposed a supplementary budget of approximately 27.8 billion yen to address damages caused by record-breaking heavy rains in the Reihoku region in late August. The budget proposal, presented to the prefectural assembly, focuses on disaster recovery for roads, rivers, and agricultural/forestry facilities.
A significant portion of the funds is earmarked for supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the agricultural sector. For SMEs, 230 million yen is allocated for reconstruction support, including subsidies for equipment repairs not covered by private insurance. A new emergency loan program, the ‘SME Support Emergency Fund’, will provide loans of up to 100 million yen with subsidized interest and guarantee fees.
In the agricultural sector, 128 million yen is designated for emergency support to help farmers restart operations, covering costs for repairing machinery and replanting crops. Specifically, 59 million yen will support buckwheat producers to ensure harvest yields following damage to approximately 50 percent of the planting area. Additionally, 26.3 billion yen is allocated for the recovery of civil engineering and forestry facilities, alongside 165 million yen for urgent safety inspections of 15 rivers to prevent future flooding.
