Japan reports multiple fatal traffic accidents across several prefectures

A series of fatal and serious traffic accidents occurred across various regions in Japan on September 20 and 21, 2026.

In Fukuoka City's Nishi Ward, a 68-year-old man, Masaharu Ogami, was arrested for dangerous driving after his light vehicle collided with three motorcycles. The collision caused a motorcycle to strike a 3-year-old boy on the sidewalk; the child has since died. Ogami reportedly admitted to mistaking the accelerator for the brake due to alcohol consumption, with a blood alcohol level of 0.99 mg/L detected.

In Aichi Prefecture, an 85-year-old man died after being struck by a truck and a taxi while lying on a roadway in Ichinomiya. Police noted that wet road surfaces and light reflections made visibility difficult.

In Ishikawa Prefecture, a 94-year-old woman died after being struck by a light vehicle in Nanao City.

In Kanagawa Prefecture, a 20-year-old man died and a woman was seriously injured when his light truck slipped on a wet surface and struck a guardrail on the Tomei Expressway.
