Vehicular incidents and accidents in Japan

Various fatal and criminal vehicular incidents have been reported across multiple regions in Japan.

In early September, several fatal accidents occurred, including a suspected drunk driving collision in Sasebo that resulted in the death of a 54-year-old man from hemorrhagic shock. Other fatalities included an elderly man struck by a truck in Nonoichi and an 83-year-old man who died following a head-on collision in Kamikoani Village.

By late September, reports included an attempted murder arrest in Saitama Prefecture, where a man allegedly used his vehicle to strike two women. Additionally, a suspected hit-and-run left a person in critical condition in Miyagi Prefecture, and a fatal single-vehicle collision with a wall was reported in Fukuoka Prefecture.

On September 20 and 21, 2026, further fatal accidents were reported. In Fukuoka City, 68-year-old Masaharu Ogami was arrested for dangerous driving after a collision involving a light vehicle and three motorcycles; the incident resulted in the death of a 3-year-old boy on a sidewalk. Ogami reportedly admitted to mistaking the accelerator for the brake due to alcohol consumption.

Other recent fatalities include an 85-year-old man in Aichi Prefecture struck by a truck and a taxi, an 94-year-old woman in Ishikawa Prefecture struck by a light vehicle, and a 20-year-old man in Kanagawa Prefecture who died after his light truck struck a guardrail on the Tomei Expressway.
