Funchal Council launches second health promotion and wellbeing initiative

The Câmara Municipal do Funchal held the second Municipal Action for Health Promotion and Well‑Being on Wednesday, bringing together parish council presidents, public agencies, social institutions, associations and professionals. In the opening session, Health Councilor Helena Leal highlighted the importance of local authorities in shaping health policies and noted that closer ties between municipalities and parishes enable tailored responses to community needs.

Leal stressed that health promotion extends beyond medical services, calling for integration of health considerations into all municipal policies, increased health literacy, and support for active, healthy lifestyles. The council also pointed to recent delegations of competencies and financial resources to parish councils, which aim to accelerate and improve local health initiatives.

The event underscored the municipality’s commitment to fostering a healthier, more inclusive and resilient community in Funchal.
