Fundación Mapfre presents new avant-garde and photography exhibitions

Fundación Mapfre has introduced three new exhibitions, including ‘La otra orilla de la vanguardia’ (The Other Shore of the Avant-Garde), which explores the relationship between works created by individuals in psychiatric institutions and avant-garde art.

The exhibition focuses on how the works of these patients influenced modern art movements in the early 20th century. It draws inspiration from the 1922 book ‘Bildnerei der Geisteskranken’ by German psychiatrist and art historian Hans Prinzhorn, which helped establish the concept of ‘art brut’.

Other featured exhibitions include ‘Prerrafaelismo. Itinerarios femeninos (1850-1914)’ and a comprehensive European retrospective of the work of American photographer Minor White.
