Fundación Mutua Madrileña and FEDER fund rehab therapies for 1,900 rare‑disease patients in Spain

The Fundación Mutua Madrileña, in partnership with the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER), launched the eighth round of its IMPULSO programme to finance rehabilitation therapies for nearly 1,900 people with rare diseases or pending diagnoses. The call supports 93 projects run by patient associations and will aid 1,410 minors and 471 adults, a 25 % increase over the previous edition. Requested services include psychology, physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, neuro‑psychology, cognitive stimulation, as well as mobility aids, orthopaedic devices, therapeutic equipment, medicines and supplements not covered by the public system.

Juan Carrión, president of FEDER, said the high demand “confirms that many families still rely on these calls to access essential treatments and basic resources that improve functional development, autonomy and quality of life.” Lorenzo Cooklin, director general of Fundación Mutua Madrileña, called the programme “an indispensable resource that allows families to obtain therapies and resources that, in the absence of a cure, remain the only option to improve quality of life.” The programme has already assisted more than 15,000 patients nationwide since its inception in 2019.
