Funeral for Solidarity chaplain Stanisław Małkowski set for September 17

The funeral mass for Father Stanisław Małkowski will be held on Thursday, September 17, at 12:00 PM in the Temple of Divine Providence in Warsaw. Małkowski, a prominent democratic opposition activist during the Polish People's Republic and a chaplain for the Solidarity movement, passed away on September 7 at the age of 82.

Małkowski will be buried at the Powązki Military Cemetery. The funeral service will be presided over by the Metropolitan of Warsaw, Archbishop Adrian Galbas SAC, with a homily delivered by Father Jan Sikorski, a well-known oppositionist and chaplain to those interned.

Throughout his 51 years of priesthood, Małkowski was deeply involved in social and political activism. He was a participant in the March 1968 strikes and a collaborator with Father Jerzy Popiełuszko, helping to lead masses for the nation in Warsaw. He also worked with human rights organizations and was a signatory of the ‘Letter of 59’ to the Sejm of the Polish People's Republic.
