Death of Solidarity chaplain Stanisław Małkowski

Overview

Father Stanisław Małkowski, a prominent Polish democratic opposition activist and Solidarity movement chaplain, died on September 7 at the age of 82.

Małkowski was a significant figure in the Polish resistance, having participated in the March 1968 strikes and worked with organizations such as the Committee for the Defense of Workers (KOR). He was a close collaborator of Father Jerzy Popiełuszko and a signatory of the ‘Letter of 59’ addressed to the Sejm of the Polish People's Republic. In 2021, he was awarded the Order of the White Eagle.

His funeral mass is scheduled for September 17 at the Temple of Divine Providence in Warsaw, presided over by Archbishop Adrian Galbas SAC. He will be buried at the Powązki Military Cemetery.
